The opening in september 2002 of the new shopping centre "Espace Jaurès"(and the arrivals of new retail chains such as Fnac, H&M, Mango..) near the Coat Ar Gueven SC and the expansion of the Leclerc hypermarket have reinforced the attractivness of the town centre and particulary of Rue Jean Jaurès, which was already the main Brest' shopping street. Rue de Siam still generates some traffic. The commercial network of periphery remains dominated by the Leclerc Kergaradec although it doesn't include a commercial arcade like its main competitors Géant Brest and Carrefour Iroise shopping centers. Recently, the opening of Les Portes de Brest retail park and Ikea brought competition to the large business area of ZAC Kergaradec.
L'ouverture en septembre 2002 du nouveau centre commercial "Espace Jaurès" (et l'arrivée de nouvelles chaînes telles que la Fnac, H&M, Mango...) près du C.C. Coat Ar Gueven et l'extension de l'hypermarché Leclerc a renforcé l'attractivité du centre ville et particulièrement de la rue Jean Jaurès, qui était déjà la rue commerçante n°1 de Brest. La rue de Siam semble néanmoins pour le moment assez bien résister. Le commerce périphérique reste dominé par le Leclerc Kergaradec bien qu'il ne possède pas de galerie marchande comme ses principaux concurrents, les centres commerciaux Géant Brest et Carrefour Iroise. Depuis peu, le retail park Les Portes de Brest et Ikea ont apportés une nouvelle concurrence à la grande zone d'activités de ZAC Kergaradec.
