For a long time, the health of Clermont-Ferrand''s trade has been linked to that of Michelin, the town''s emblematic tyre manufacturer. Although this interdependence is declining, industrial action and restructuring at Michelin always have an impact on consumption. Town-centre trade is mostly concentrated between the Cathedral and the streets linking Place Gilbert Gaillard to Place de Jaude, the true heart of Clermont-Ferrand. The Centre Jaude is one of its main anchors. Opposite the Centre Jaude, a major urban upgrade programme has made it possible to integrate, among other things, a Champion supermarket. The commercial hubs on the town''s outskirts are located along a north-south axis which follows the RN 9, with the exception of the Cora SC which is located to the east of the conurbation. The largest peripheral hub is the Auchan Plein Sud SC. Another such hub, the Auchan Clermont Nord SC, is currently being renovated.

Même si ce phénomène s''est atténué, les mouvements sociaux ou restructurations au sein de l''entreprise emblématique de la ville ne sont jamais sans conséquence sur la consommation. Le commerce de centre ville se concentre essentiellement entre la Cathédrale et les axes reliant la Place Gilbert Gaillard à la Place de Jaude, véritable cœur de Clermont Ferrand. Le "Centre Jaude" en est l''une des principales locomotives. Face au Centre Jaude, un important programme de requalification urbaine a permis d''intégrer notamment un supermarché Champion. En périphérie, à l''exception du Centre Commercial Cora, situé à l''est de l''agglomération, les pôles commerciaux sont implantés sur un axe nord/sud en bordure de la RN 9, dont le plus important est le Centre Commercial Auchan Plein Sud . Le Centre Commercial Auchan Clermont Nord fait quant à lui l''objet d''une rénovation.
