Karlsruhe

Visitors are coming from all over the region to go shopping in Karlsruhe, but as well from the Palatinate and from Alsace. The retailing turnover rose up to 2 billion EUR in 2001. Inhabitants and employees are benefiting from one of the best systems of local traffic in Europe, that carries a potential of 1.2 mn. people. The main shopping area is Kaiserstrasse, which is about 2 km long. Kaiserstrasse gives access to the shopping centre Postgalerie and the smaller shopping arcade Kaiserpassage. Right next to this high street, the ECE-shopping centre "Ettlinger Tor" opened in 2005. This is one of the biggest inner-city shopping centres in Germany and won several awards.
Zum Einkaufen kommen Besucher aus der ganzen Region, aber auch aus der benachbarten Pfalz und dem Elsass nach Karlsruhe. Der Einzelhandelsumsatz betrug 2001 über 2 Mrd. EUR. Einwohner und Beschäftigte profitieren von einem der dichtesten Nahverkehrssystem in Europa, dass das Kundenpotential von 1,2 Mio. Menschen versorgt. Die Haupteinkaufszone bildet die 2 km lange Kaiserstrasse in der Karlruher Innestadt, an der das Shopping Center Postgalerie, sowie die kleinere Kaiser-Passage liegen. In unmittelbarer Nähe entsteht das ECE-Shopping Center „Ettlinger Tor“ das 2005 eröffnete und eines der grössten Innenstadt Shopping Center Deutschlands ist und bereits mehrfach prämiert wurde.
