Mainz is situated in the Rhine-main-region with a catchment area of 5 mn. people. The shopping area is focussed on the inner-centre. The picturesque wine and boutique area is located in the old part of the city. The modern shopping-zone is concentrated around Stadthausstrasse. The new shopping-centre Romerpassage "Lotharpassage" was re-opened after refurbishment at the end of Stadthausstrasse. Further, there is a strongly frequented shopping-zone around market-place. Less frequented side-streets with local retailing are around Stadthausstrasse. Mainz has found the golden mean between historical ambience and shopping. On the one hand, there are many restaurants and bars beside shops in the picturesque old part of the town, on the other hand there are pure shopping-centres such as the Roemerpassage and more modern centres such as the Fort Malakoff Park. Die über 2000 Jahre alte Hauptstadt von Rheinland-Pfalz, liegt im Rhein-Main-Gebiet, mit ca. 5 Mio. Einwohnern.
