Bielefeld

As an economic und cultural centre of Eastern Westphalia and with its population of 325,000, Bielefeld is one of the twenty major cities in Germany. Since Germany`s reunification and the opening of Eastern Europe, Bielefeld has "moved" geographically to become a central location. If textile and clothing manufactures have helped the town to economic prosperity, Bielefeld's importance in science and research has grown considerably with the establishment of its university and colleges. Generously planned pedestrian zones between the main railway station and Sparrenburg Castle have turned Bielefeld into a popular shopping area. Concerning the retail sector, Bielefeld has a dominant position in Eastern Westphalia. The City is focussed on the dismembered centre.
Bielefeld mit seinen 325.000 Einwohnern ist das ökonomische und kulturelle Zentrum Ostwestfalens. Nach der Wiedervereinigung ist die Stadt aus einer Randposition in die Mitte Deutschlands gerückt. Die Stadt blickt auf eine lange Tradtion in der Textil- und Bekleidungsindustrie zurück. Einzelhandelsmäßig ist Bielefeld auf den starkzergliederten Innenstadtbereich von der Bahnhofstrasse aus ausgerichtet und lebt sehr stark von der dominanten Stellung in Ostwestfalen und dem großen Einzugsgebiet. Ein gut gelungener Mix von regionalem Einzelhandel und bekannten Filialisten sowie den Kaufhäusern als Hauptankern schafft eine angenehme Einkaufsathmosphäre in Verbindung mit regionaler und Themengastronomie.
