  • Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, is the country''s administration centre with the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Office and the Supreme Courts all located within the City. Situated on the south-east coast of Scotland, Edinburgh is served by excellent transport links that include the M8, M9, A1, A7, A90 and Edinburgh Airport, which is located approximately 11 kms west of the City on the A8. Edinburgh Waverly mainline station runs services into London Kings Cross and London Euston in just under 5 hours. Edinburgh is an affluent city whose population is increased dramatically every year by the presence of the student and tourist population, particularly during August when the Edinburgh Festival occurs. The city’s population contains almost five times the national average number of better off executives, and a similar ratio of affluent urbanites. 27.2% of the population are ABs compared to a national average of 21.7% and there is also an above average number of 18-44 year olds. The principal shopping street of the city is Princes Street, which essentially divides the Old Town from the New and runs for approximately a mile with retail provision on the northern side only. Zara trade from 104/106 Princes Street. The famous Jenners Department Store, Marks and Spencer, and Debenhams are all located here, along with other national multiples such as Gap, River Island, USC, Footlocker, JJB Sports, Next, Clarks and Russell and Bromley. To the north, and parallel to Princes Street is the quieter George Street, where quality brands are located, including Thomas Pink, Austin Reed, Viyella, East, Hobbs, Karen Millen, Jaeger and Mappin and Webb.
