  • The city of Lisbon, the country's capital, should be considered together with the town of Cascais if its conurbation is to be properly understood. At present, it is dominated by five main shopping centres: Colombo, Vasco de Gama, Ammoreiras, Cascais Shopping and Almada Forum ( Multi ). The opening of the Forum Almada in 2002, on the other bank of the Tagus, by the Dutch Multidevelopment company, has been a very important event and has been followed by other large-scale projects on the same bank. Major projects are currently under development like Dolce Vita Tejo or the expansion of Jumbo Alfragide. High street retail is concentrated on Avenida da Liberdade (more high end) and the pedestrian Chiado historical area in Baixa. Two factory outlet malls in the city outskirts have attracted a large portion of international retailers : Freeport and Campera .
