Łódź is the second largest city in Poland, with a population of approximately 1.2 million. Łódź is famous for its textile industry, developed in the last 2 centuries. There are some 20 shopping centres with hypermarket anchors and more on the way. The biggest shopping centre is Manufaktura inaugurated in 2006. Port Łódź opened in 2010. The Focus Mall (in Piotrków Trybunalski which is approx. 40 kms from Łódź) opened end 2009, and has also brought something new to the city and the surrounding towns. Plaza Centers have their centre in the planning stage, but this will also be another big centre for the city of Łódź.
