  • Poznan is the 5th largest city with a population around 550 000 and is a 3 hour by train journey from Germany (what contributes to the attractiveness and potential of the city). Poznan has been one of the early success stories for Poland, attracting companies such as Glaxo Wellcome, Nestle, Volkswagen and Wrigley. Poznan is famous for the trade fairs that virtually follow one after the other. Poznan has seen the opening of shopping centres like Metro's M1, Ikea, Tesco, Hypernova (now Carrefour), Auchan and Kupiec Poznanski Shopping Centre. Poznan has been a little slow in developing its retail potential in comparison with other Polish cities. This situation started changing when King Cross Marcelin and Poznan Plaza opened in 2005. The in-town Stary Browar shopping is a big success and the extension made iteven more attractive. In early 2012 is the planned opening of the Poznan Gówny shopping centre over the main train and bus station in Poznan. Other projects like Centrum Handlowe Łacina and Metropolis are both planned for 2013
