Bilbao

A major town and port in northern Spain, Bilbao is located at the mouth of the river Nervion near the Bay of Biscay. It is the capital of its province. The town underwent a major industrial transformation during the 1980s, turning sharply towards service industries. After the metro in 1995, the Guggenheim museum, the new symbol of the town, was inaugurated in October 1997, and both seem to have given a new dynamism to this Basque city. Bilbao is framed by two major shopping centres: Max Center Kareaga to the south of the town, and Artéa to the north, a more recent arrival. But end of 2004 were inaugurated two new major retail developments : Zubiarte and the first phase of Megapark Barakaldo.
Ciudad y puerto mayor de España, Bilbao está situado en la desembocadura del río Nervión cerca del golfo de Vizcaya. La ciudad, capital de provincia, ha experimentado una conversión industrial importante durante los años 80. Se ha convertido en una ciudad de servicios. En octubre 1997, se inauguró el museo Guggenheim, nueva figura emblemática de la ciudad que parece haber dadó un empujón a la dinámica de la ciudad Vasca... Bilbao está rodeada de dos centros comerciales grandes: Max Center Kareaga, en el sur de la ciudad, y el más reciente Artea en el Norte.
