Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands. It is famous for its canals and canal-side houses, the Koninklijk Paleis (Royal Palace) and the Rijksmuseum (National Museum). Amsterdam’s shopping area comprises 1,000,000 square metres, including the neighbouring city of Amstelveen, divided into over 6000 shops. The Amsterdam shops owe a great deal of their turnover to the millions of tourists that visit Amsterdam every year.
