  • Unlike central Europe's other two major cities (Warsaw and Budapest), Prague saw relatively little activity relating to the opening of major new shopping centres until the end of 2001. The opening of the Novy Smichov shopping centre by Klépierre at the end of 2001 started the race, then came extension (2 an 3...) of the Tesco shopping centre in Letnany and the opening of the Portland Trust shopping centre on the city's outskirts. The opennings of Flora Plazza, Centrum Chodov (Rodamco/Unibail), Palladium and Pankrac ECE in November 2008 have very substantially change Prague's shopping center retail provision over the last 10 years. The streets of the city centre (Prague 1), dominated by Na Prikope and Wenceslas square are the heart of retailing in Prague as they also benefit of a huge flow of tourists.
