The town centre of Nancy has 3 main shopping areas: the traditional shopping streets (dominated by Rue Saint Jean); the Saint Sébastien S.C., a sort of 2nd town centre with Monoprix, and the complex formed by Galeries Lafayette/FNAC around the Place André Maginot. The axis formed by Rue Saint Jean and Rue Saint Georges, now with broader pavements, is limited to tram traffic only. The fact that the tram network came into service more than a year late has seriously affected retail trade in the town centre. As far as the town's outskirts are concerned, the project Bonsecours (including the transfer of the Auchan Lobeau hypermarket) originally scheduled for 2008 is postponed for administrative appeals. Furthermore, the opening of the eastern ring-road (Rocade Est) in late 2002 substantially shortens transit times between the 2 shopping centres located within this zone: the Cora d'Essey and the Auchan Tomblaine.
Le centre ville nancéen s'articule autour de 3 pôles: les rues commerçantes traditionnelles (dominées par la rue St Jean), le C.C. St Sébastien, véritable centre ville "bis" avec Monoprix, et le Pôle Galeries Lafayette/ FNAC autour de la place André Maginot. La mise en place du tramway a provoqué d'importantes modifications dans le plan de déplacement urbain nancéen. L'axe Rue Saint Jean/Rue Saint Georges, réaménagé avec de larges trottoirs, est désormais réservé à la circulation du tramway. En ce qui concerne la périphérie, le projet Bonsecours (incluant le transfert de l'hypermarché Auchan Lobeau) initiallement programmé pour 2008 est retardé du fait de recours administratifs. L'ouverture de la "rocade Est" fin 2002 a raccourci sensiblement les liaisons entre les 2 pôles commerciaux implantés dans cette zone : le C.C. Cora d'Essey et le C.C. Auchan Tomblaine.
