Unlike the other major Parisian railway stations, Gare Montparnasse is housed in a modern building opposite the Tour Montparnasse. It attracts not only suburban customers but also long-distance travellers (such as passengers of the TGV Ouest). Over the last years, several major retail chains, such as Celio, Micromania, etc., have "tested" whether or not their concept is suited to transit areas. A competition was launched for the remodelling and the development of the retail areas. Altarea Cogedim was selected in June 2014 to develop and manage them during 30 years. The retail surface will grow from 6.000 to 19.000 sqm (130 shops). First phase opened end 2018 (about 50 shops). Complete opening scheduled in 2020.
La gare Montparnasse, contrairement aux autres grandes gares parisiennes, s’intègre dans un bâtiment moderne, qui fait face à la Tour Montparnasse. Elle draine à la fois une clientèle « grandes lignes » (notamment celle du TGV Ouest) et banlieue. Plusieurs grandes enseignes y ont « testé » ces dernières années, l’adaptation de leur concept aux espaces de transit : notamment Celio, Micromania… Un appel à candidatures a été lancé pour la restructuration des espaces commerciaux. Altarea Cogedim a été selectionné en juin 2014 pour les développer et les gérer durant 30 ans. La surface commerciale va passer de 6.000 a 19.000 m2 (130 boutiques). L'ouverture de la 1ere phase a eu lieu fin 2018 (environ 50 boutiques). Ouverture complete prévue en 2020.
