Essen`s main shopping street runs from the railway station to Limbecker and Kornmarkt. It is a broad pedestrian zone with many big department stores acting like anchors. Kaufhof, Karstadt, Woolworth and Peek & Cloppenburg used to be situated here but most of them closed in the recent years and several "big names" relocated in the Limberker Platz shopping centre. since 2011, Primark occupies the former C&A building (8.000 sqm).
