- On a area of some 50 hectares (occupied by industrial buildings) located between the NS station and the Twente canal, the redevelopment of a new city district is under way. Some of these buildings will accomodate retail and offices areas. It will also include some 800 new accomodations. The 4.000 sqm Esrein shopping centre will occupy a former factory. It will be anchored by two supermarkets. The building permit was awarded end 2013. Opening scheduled mid 2015. Developers : Van Wijnen Groep / Municipality of Hengelo.
