- Located on Leith Street, just to the north east of Princes Street the first St James Shopping was inaugurated in 2017. The centre consists of a shopping mall, with the Thistle Edinburgh Hotel at the front and a multi-storey car park to the north. Nuveen (TH Real Estate) bought it from Donegal Place Investments for £184 million in May 2006 and is now developing the St James Quarter project which includes the demolition of the shopping arcade in 2016 (but the John Lewis store) and the creation of a new 3-storey shopping centre and double the retail surface (to welcome some 85 shops and 30 f&b units), the creation of an underground car park for 1.600 cars, the creation of offices and houses on the upper levels. Completion scheduled in 2020. In October 2016, Dutch pension asset manager APG took a 75% stake in the project.
