- Union Street has seen its attractivness decline as the prime pitch has moved from Broadmead, historically the prime pedestrianised pitch, east towards the Cabot Circus development, completed in 2008. It runs parallel to Merchant Street, on a north-south axis. Its north end has recent vacancies, whilst to its southern end it has a stronger level of uptake from fast food outlets and discount stores such as Wilko. There is a supermarket, Tesco Metro, on the eastern side, at the junction with Broadmead.
