- Westgate Shopping Centre is in the heart of Oxford and thus commands a large footfall from an affluent customer base. Previously refused planning permission was granted in March 2007 to increase the size from 21.500 sqm to 69.674 sqm and creating 90 retail units. The planned opening of this venture was Autumn 2011 but the project was put on hold mid 2008. Investors : The Westgate Partnership (joint venture between CSC and Coal Pension Properties Ltd. In 2010, The Crown Estate acquired the CSC shares. In May 2010, Land Securities bought a 50 per cent stake from The Crown Estate for some £28m. The project gained consent in March 2014. Westgate was inaugurated in October 2017 with John Lewis will as one of its new anchors with a 9.290 sqm store as well as a 5-screen cinema.
