- Inaugurated in 1865, the Nordbahnhof is located by the Praterstern. It is an important public transport hub as 4 bus lines, 4 tramway lines and the U1 underground line service it. It welcomes some 80.000 passengers daily. A new metro station on U2 line is linked to it since 2008 (The traffic is expected then to reach 110.000 passengers/day). Since 2004, it was under refurbishment and extension to accomodate some 6.000 sqm of retail. It was inaugurated in April 2008 (in time for the European football championship) under the new name "Wien Praterstern" Investment : 39 M Euros. The project was a part of a large urban scheme on some 75 hectares, including housing and offices.
