It is located by the river Clyde riverside and is easily accessible by the M8 motorway (junction 6. It was completed in 2001 by a 29.000 sqm Ikea megastore and in 2006 by the XSpace adventure park. As some 165 acres (66 hectares) are still available, future developments are expected in housing, offices and retail. In January 2012, Intu acquired a 30.96 acre plot (12,5 hectares) for 4,9 M£. In January 2013 a planning application was submitted for a mixed-use development between Braehead and Xscape (now included in Braehead) which would accomodate retail (including a new department store), a sports and concert arena, cafés, restaurants and a 200-room hotel.
