- The Eccles Shopping Centre was built in the 60's downtown Eccles, a suburban town 6 km west from Manchester (36.600 inhabitants). In the past years it suffered from the competition with major shopping hubs like the city centre of Manchester or the Trafford Centre. Threadneedle Property Investments has been granted planning consent for the redevelopment of the shopping centre in March 2010. A 7.350 sqm food store will be created and be the main anchor of the revamped scheme. It will also have to compete with the nearby West One retail park which will be anchored by a new 8.214 sqm Tesco store (see West One Retail Park).
