- As a part of the major urban redevelopment "Stuttgart 21", Stuttgart's main train station is to be deeply remodelled with new infrastructure to be mainly located underground. The freed plots of land will be sold for new developement. But this project has been highly disputed by both politicians and citizens for a long time(a demonstration attended by more than 50.000 people was organized in October 2010). Deutsche Bahn decided to put the construction works (started in February 2010) on hold in March 2011. A referendum will be organized in the coming months about the project.
