Königstrasse

Koenigstrasse is the main shopping-zone in Nuremberg. It leads from the railway station in the south to the market place in the north of the inner city centre and gives access to Karolinenstrasse and Breite Gasse. The area near the station is characterized by hotels and restaurants. The northern part accomodates all categories of retailing. The railway station and the subway station as well as the big department stores are providing a constant flow of customers. This street offers an exceptional shopping ambiente with its historical buildings. Crossing the river Pegnitz, this part is characterized by local and regional retailers.
Die Königstrasse durchmisst die Altstadt in Nord-Süd-Richtung vom Hauptmarkt bis zum Bahnhof mit einer Länge von 660m, sie gibt Zugang zu den anderen beiden grossen Einkaufsstrassen Karolinenstrasse und Breite Gasse. Den Beginn der Strasse markiert ein monumentaler Turm. Der südliche Teil der Strasse ist keine Fußgängerzone. Hier sind Hotels, Restaurants und Gaststätten in der Überzahl. Der mittlere Teil bis zum Fluß Pegnitz bietet ein atemberaubendes Einkaufserlebnis. Dies liegt einerseits an den historischen Gebäuden aber auch am Relief der Strasse, sie fällt in Richtung Hauptmarkt einige Meter ab, so dass sich ein ungewöhnliches Shopping-Bild bietet. An der Brücke über die Pegnitz breitet sich ein romantisches Flair. Weiter Richtung Hauptmarkt runden kleine lokale Händler das Bild ab.
