  • There cannot be many cities in the world where the foremost shopping street has uninterrupted views of a historic, medieval castle due to retail outlets only being built along one side of the street. But that is Edinburgh's Princes Street. The main retail thoroughfare in Edinburgh is where Jenner’s, the famous department store is situated. Many of the major multiples are represented including Gap, Clarks, H&M, Zara, Superdrug, Urban Outfitters, Boots. Although the entire street is good, the best stretch is from Jenner’s down to the junction with Castle Street. The 121-123 block, owned by Deramore since 2008, will be remodeled to accommodate a 103-room hotel and several shops including a New Look flagship. Primark opened end 2011 a 7.000 sqm flagship store in the former M&S building at n°91-93. A project of an underground shopping mall on the street was rejected by the City authorities in 2008.
