At the beginning of 2007, Orco property group acquired the former Wertheim site on Lepziger Platz (the department store destroyed in 1944 was at the time the largest one in Europe) for 75 M Euros. It is a part of a large urban development (89000 sqm, including shoppping, office and accomodation areas) initiated by the administrative authorities of Berlin, aiming to rebuild the 18th-century octagonal square destroyed during World War II. End 2009, Orco sold the project to High Gain House Investments GmbH (Harald G. Huth). The shopping arcade accomodates more than 270 shops, with international brands which opened there their first unit in Berlin or in Germany. In April 2011 Hig Gain House acquired a 11.000 sqm adjacent plot for an extension of the scheme where 50 shops are already planned.
