Intu Costa del Sol

The municipality of Torremolinos (which population is expected to nearly double over the next 10 years to reach 120.000) approved a project including a shopping centre and a 5* hotel on a 150.000 sqm plot located next to the Congress Hall and the Aqualand entertainment centre. Originally developed by Peel Developments Espana, the project was inspired by the Trafford shopping centre in Manchester. Although many opposants (Chamber of Commerce, ecologists...) the project was approved by the local authorities in May 2008 but was put on hold. The project was relaunched when Intu bought the development from Peel.
